Wellingborough Multi-Terrain – Round 1

Well today was the first race of the season and also a bit of a tester for my nearly heeled (do you like what I did there?) plantar fasciitis. The Wellingborough MT – 10km is the first part of a three race series run at Irchester Park in Northamptonshire and boy was it cold!

I used to run cross-country races regularly until my late teens but haven’t done anything like this really since then so it was a bit of a blast from the past doing this race. It was good fun though, deliberately ran the first lap easy to see how I felt and was quite nice to be passing people throughout the whole of the second lap. Came in at sub 50 which I was pretty pleased with considering I was struggling to walk a few months ago. All in all and good day out and has given me a really good confidence boost for the main event in April.

First week done and dusted

Well, I’ve made it through the first week of training. After the two shorter runs in the week a 30 mile bike ride yesterday and a 5 mile run today completed a fairly successful week. All targets were met, heel is still a bit sore but the slower I run the better it feels – which is a bit of a strange concept for me. Might have to stop wearing my watch when I run as I’m terrible for speeding up if I think my times seem a bit slow.

Had a nice ride 30 mile bike ride yesterday with a short tea stop. That’s the problem with riding past Salcey Forest Cafe – there’s always a cup of tea with my name on it!

The run today was a bit slower than I wanted but with plantar fasciits still causing problems beggars can’t be choosers so completing was good enough – bit of ice afterwards sorted it out. Off road seems to be the way to go so might have a go at the Wellingborough MT next week.
