I love the snow, I’m a winter baby and I still get excited like a little kid with the prospect of snow. However, with my adult head on the consequences of it falling do impact on life. I’m not mad on driving in it – I don’t mind, but given the choice I probably wouldn’t, however I’m one of those people who will always have a go at getting to work – I hate to be thought of as the one who didn’t even try.
With this in mind the blanket of snow that the UK had over the weekend has already impacted my training. I decided to do my traditional long run on Saturday in the hope of avoiding the snow – which I did – but in doing do bumped the cross training in the form of cycling from the schedule. I don’t mind missing the bike ride as such, I never cycle in anything that looks remotely icy/snowy following a broken collar bone this time last year – lesson learned! But what does worry me is the prospect of missing training runs. I know missing the odd one isn’t necessarily a problem, but I wondered what I would do if the cold spell continues?
I don’t think it’s wise running when it’s icy for obvious reasons but what of running in the snow – do you risk it or not? What alternatives are there? I’m not a fan of treadmill running but appreciate sometimes there is no choice. We shall see what the weather brings over the next few days….
