Deep down I’m a runner. I like to pretend I’m a triathlete, but in my heart I’m a runner, always have been and always will. There, I’ve said it, I’ve owned up. I may spend much more time devoted to triathlon than running, but secretly I can’t wait until the run section.
I’ve been a runner since I was eight years old and competing in our local school cross country league, reached the dizzy heights of the county team then went to Uni, discovered alcohol and nightclubs and took another 10 years to get back into it again. But as with most things as you get older, too much running causes too many injuries and I sort of fell into triathlons as a means of training and keeping fit without crippling myself.
My dream has always been to run the London Marathon and now I finally have my chance. Fingers crossed the road to London isn’t too rocky – to finish in one piece is my goal (and if I were to dip under the 4 hours mark – well, that would be fab 😉 )
Update – July 2012
Well, I did complete the London Marathon – wasn’t the sub 4 hour I hoped for but nonetheless I finished and the experience has just reinforced my love of running, with a few triathlons thrown in for good measure.
Update – March 2014
I completed London again in 2013 – just missed four hours by 2 minutes so will be back to sort that out one day but have now changed my focus and will be attempting a half ironman in June 2014.
Update – November 2014
Completed the half ironman in a respectable time. Then amazingly off the back of it qualified for the ETU Middle Distance Champs in Mallorca, then the ITU Standard Champs in Canada this year and just to round off the bumper year I learned recently I’ll be heading to Geneva for the ETU Standard Champs next July. One tiny half marathon goal to go and that will have been one heck of a year!
Guess you’ll have to update this page now tiger! I am entirely jealous of your enjoyment of running.

If you changed the dates this is an uncannily accurate description of my background……right down to missing 4 hours at the London Marathon by minutes. Got a ballot place for 2015 so back to try and put that straight!!! Good luck with all your plans for 2015…..are you trying for GB again?
